Newsletter March 2010
The competition season cranked up a notch in March with our first Event of the season scheduled to be the Tonimbuk International Horse Trials a few hours east of Melbourne. Major hailstorms on Saturday afternoon put paid to the Cross Country phase of the event; we were very lucky to be able to have any competition at all and were grateful that the organizers showed great flexibility to run a combined training competition with full prize money! I was most appreciative as Shine led the Dressage on 49.2 (ahead of my Dressage coach, Megan Jones on Allofasudden who was feeling his feet and wasn’t at his best) and Dancer was 5th on a 53, then both jumped clear rounds over a relatively difficult indoor track to achieve the quinella.
My 6yo mare, Sun Showers was also competitive in her first CIC* for eventual 4th place, up from 9th after dressage while Kirsyl Sun was unfortunately stepped on in the truck on the ride across sustaining a small puncture wound to his hind leg that prevented him from competing. Amarah rode Adloo Sun Swish well for a good dressage & just one rail jumping to finish 14th in a big Preliminary class.
Andrea Dumbrell, the ‘Czech Princess’ & good friend, then sent her faithful equine partner, “Road Shark” home with us to do some training & compete at some SA competitions for the rest of March.
Wow, what a month March became! Another successful clinic at “Sunning Hill” the next Saturday before the SA State Indoor Jumping Championships at Mallala the following day; the Reynella Horse Trials and the SA State Jumping Championships kept us all very busy...and that was just during the daylight hours!.
Koyuna Sun Set won the Indoor Championships; Kirsly Sun won the CNC* at Reynella with Sun Showers in 3rd place, while Sun Shine & Sun Dancer were 2nd & 3rd behind Megan Jones & her Olympic mount, Kirby Park Irish Jester; Sun Set won the John Bruggeman Memorial class, but came in second in the SA Senior State Championships.

| Looking good here on the Reynella 3* Cross country but a sudden stop & a rider fall towards the end of the course realistically ended Magic’s campaign for this year’s WEG. | Koyuna Sun Set wins the Grand Prix class at the SA State Jumping Championships with the only double clear jumping rounds |
